Education

Senior Wellesley College student double-majoring in Peace and Justice Studies and English. My Peace and Justice Studies concentration is in Urban Educational Inequities and Humanizing Educational Methods. I am particularly interested in early literacy programs, school-community partnerships, critical alternatives to reform, youth community organizing, and youth interfaith work. In English, I focus on American poetry, diasporic writing, and literary representations of race, class, and gender.

Experience

SAT total score 2060. SAT Writing score, 770. I have tutored students K-12 in humanities and social sciences, and have tutored students K-5 in reading, writing, math, and social studies. I have full-time work experience as a counselor at a therapeutic summer camp for children with Aspbeger's, mood disorders, ADD, ADHD, and behavioral issues. In addition to camp counselor duties, I wrote seven lengthy reports for the children's parents and schools about their progress. I work with a student-run Wellesley College organization that volunteers in Boston elementary schools and at several Boston after school programs. I spent May-August 2013 as an interdisciplinary curriculum developer and a full time art, peace, and justice teaching specialist for kids ages 6-15 at a St. Stephen's Youth Programs camp in Boston. I've taken a variety of courses in the Education department at Wellesley, including a graduate level course offered at the undergraduate level at Wellesley College in Child Literacy and the Teaching of Reading. This course has provided me with the skills I need to aid English speaking students and English language learners in aspects of reading comprehension. I did a cooperative teaching placement at a Wellesley elementary school as part of this course, and received excellent marks. I'm well-versed in working with children to improve their social, emotional, personal, and intellectual growth. I love helping students make gains in school and standardized testing, feel good about themselves, and take pride in their successes. I am a very compassionate and patient person, and I know students are capable of so much more than they believe. I know how to push students in a way that builds their confidence, their skill-sets, and their critical thinking skills. I help students get positive results. Current and Past Work Experience: -St. Stephen's Youth Programs, Interdisciplinary Curriculum Developer and Art, Peace, and Justice teaching specialist, summer 2013 -Student Caller at the Wellesley College Phonathon fundraising program, March 2011-March 2013 -Counselor at Camp Triumph, summer 2012 -Massachusetts State House Legislative Intern, summer 2011 -Party Planner and Hostess at a commercial farm, summer 2010 -nearly a decade of part-time babysitting experience
